REARING OF KIDS

The following must be noted and taken into consideration:

• Ensure intake of colostrum (first milk) within 24hrs
• Separate the young ones and the mother from the flock for a week
• Don’t tether the mother and provide with enough water
• If you are keeping milk goats separate the kid from the mother and allow suckling twice a day
• Introduce roughage after 21 days
• Provide water and bran
• Castrate excess male kids after 30 days
• From 30 – 120 days allow the young to graze with adults and separate them at night
• Deworm the kids at 2 months and then 1 month after onset of rains
• Do not deworm pregnant goats
