TYPES OF HOUSES
TYPES OF HOUSES
There are two types;
- Raised Slatted and
- Deep Litter
Raised Slatted / Raised Khola
The house is raised as shown in this picture.
This kind of khola is recommended because of the following reasons:
- Goats are protected from diseases and parasites
- Dropping and urine fall on the ground hence easy cleaning of the khola
- Goats are provided with shelter from rain, wind and sun
- Goats are safe from wild animals
- Easy to collect droppings
- There is good circulation of air hence reduced build-up of ammonia and then reduced pneumonia incidences
Recommendations for a raised Khola
- A khola for less than 10 goats should measure 1.8m x 2.8m
- For 10 to 20 goats the house should be 2.7m×3.7m
- From the ground to the house floor it should be 1.0m
- Wall height should be 1.8-2m
- Use straight poles
- Poles for the floor should be spaced at 20mm to allow droppings and urine to pass through
- Feeding area should be on one side to avoid mixing grass with droppings.
