Maize grain is conveniently stored when packed in 50kg bags. If you have used bags clean them with hot water before using them.

Place 50kg bags of clean maize grain on pallets or poles in a shed. Pallets/poles allow air circulation and prevent contact of bags of maize with the floor that may emit moisture.

Place maize bags away from walls to allow air circulation and prevent contact of bags of maize grain with the wall that might emit moisture.

The storage facility should be clean and dry – inside as well as around the store house, well-ventilated, guarded against rodents and bird entry. It should have a roof that does not leak when it is raining, has no physical contaminants and is secure.
