AFLATOXIN CONTROL

Aflatoxin can be prevented by doing the following:

• Plant good seed

• Plant at recommended spacing to conserve moisture

• Make box rigdes which assist in conserving moisture, moisture prevents occurrence of aflatoxin in groundnuts

• Harvest and dry groundnuts in good time

• Dry groundnuts in cool and dry place

• Do not add water when shelling

• Carry groundnuts in dry vessels and store in a dry place

• Discard or burn all infected groundnuts and do not feed livestock with it.

Consult extension officers for more information on how to avoid aflatoxin in groundnuts.
