RICE VARIETIES
- There are two varieties of rice; improved and local
- Farmers using local varieties should select seed from healthy plants in the field and store it properly.
The table below shows the different rice varieties and their growing regimes.

The potential yield for most improved varieties ranges from 4.5 to 7 tons per hectare whereas for most local varieties it ranges from 1 to 4.6 tons per hectare.
During rain fed, most varieties mature between 140 to 155 days whereas during irrigated it ranges from 95 to 120 days.
