PLANTING
PLANTING
In Malawi, soybean should be planted in November and December (for summer cropping) and May or June (for winter cropping). Winter cropping is done with irrigation or in dimbas under residual moisture.
Soybean should not be dry planted and should not be planted until it is clear that the rains have properly started.
Seed Inoculation
Soya seed should be inoculated with Rhizobium for high grain yield. The Rhizobium strain is available from Agricultural Research Stations and other agro dealer shops. Read instructions inside/on innoculum packet on how you can apply it to seeds.
Seed dressing
All seeds should be treated with a fungicide seed dressing such as Thiram before planting in order to control seed-borne and soil borne diseases. Read instructions inside/on packet on how you can apply it to seeds.
